Local Activities
The abundance of activities available in Tamarindo is amazing. Although
you may decide to visit Tamarindo and simply relax, we guarantee
that something we offer here will peak your interest and get you
off the lounge chair!
Surfing
The warm waters and abundant waves of the Pacific Ocean attract
surfers from around the world. Tamarindo is a favorite destination
for surfers of all ages and skill levels because of the many different
beach breaks and river mouths in the area. Special destinations
such as Witch's Rock and Ollie's Point are only a short distance
from Tamarindo and attract the most avid surfers.
Sports Fishing
Tamarindo is world renown for blue water sport fishing. Many of
the captains here are pioneers in this area and their conservation
minded "catch and release" policies are among the best
in Costa Rica. Many record catches of marlin, sail and giant tuna
have been made off these shores. Whether you want deep-sea fishing
or in-shore reef fishing, our boats and captains can accommodate
you.
Scuba Diving/Snorkeling
The Santa Catalinas, just north of Tamarindo Bay, offers an incredible
diving experience. You will see huge schools of tuna, barracuda,
Eagle and Spotted rays, and if you are lucky, giant manta rays.
Snorkeling , you will see a variety of tropical fish, eels, starfish,
octopus, seahorses and lobsters.
Canopy Tour
Experience the jungle a whole new way! Canopy tours have become
very popular in Costa Rica and you will find several in the area.
These tours use zip lines to get you from one platform to another,
which are usually high above the jungle floor. They are safe and
a true adrenaline rush!
Turtle Nesting
Tamarindo is located in the center of the Las Baulas National Marine
Park, which is a nesting ground for the Giant Leatherback turtles.
The turtles nest from November to March, coming onto the beach at
night with the tide. To see this incredible process, you must reserve
a tour with a guide in advance, as the number of people allowed
on the beach is limited.
Golf
Tamarindo is fast becoming a golf destination with two world-class
golf courses within 30 minutes of town. The new Hacienda Pinilla
Golf Course, a Michael Young Design course, offers ocean views on
the back nine. The Garra de Leon Golf Course, designed by Robert
Trent Jones II, is the host of many Costa Rican tournaments and
is known for its spectacular views and abundant wildlife. The Las
Colinas course on Playa Grande is a nice, easy course with great
views of the ocean.
